“I know my stuff is not as fancy as I could make it and I know it’s not as polished as it could be, but that’s on purpose!”
Blogger. Speaker. Marketing Guru. Ruckus Maker. Bestselling Author. Ringleader. Podcaster. Analogy King. Entrepreneur. Teacher.
The internet has certainly changed the world, which has resulted in new types of leaders emerging and also for a new type of leadership. There are smaller tribes of people forming and these people need their own leaders. Tribes are becoming more niche and require a specific type of ringleader. The beauty of the world now, is that we can all find each other.
Our guest this week, Seth Godin, is someone who knows this all too well. Which is why he is leading us and encouraging us as entrepreneurs, business people and marketers to find and connect with our minimum viable audience.
Seth, is the author of 18 bestselling books that have been translated into more than 35 languages. He was also inducted into the Direct Marketing Hall of Fame in 2013 and the Marketing Hall of Fame in 2018.
His daily blog is one of the most popular in the world. He started it over 20 years ago and has now published over 7,300 posts. It is a testament to his philosophy of always showing up
Most of all, Seth, is a teacher. He wants people to realise their potential within themselves and that now the game has changed. We don’t need to be working for large corporates, we can work for ourselves, on work that matters.
Seth is a private man and very conscious of the message he wants to spread in this world and also the value he intends on bringing. He grew up in a household where his parents promoted and encouraged change. He trained as an engineer and it didn’t matter what he did, everything kept coming back to change.
Fear is something which grips all of us and we have a lot to thank for what he calls, the lizard brain. When he gets fearful of doing something, it’s because the narrator in his head knows he is onto something good. So he will listen to it by doing the exact opposite!!
This conversation is mostly about his latest book, This Is Marketing. As he explains, even after writing 18 previous bestsellers, he had no choice but to write another. The market wanted and needed it, so he provided it.
You can do work that matters for people who care. This book shows you the way.
We hope you enjoy this conversation as much as we did.
Let’s find out what it means for Seth Godin, to be Ridiculously Human.
